Research in Action

Researchers and clinicians at Baylor Scott and White Institute for Rehabilitation made multiple presentations at the annual meeting of the American College of Rehabilitation Medicine in Dallas, TX. The team made oral and poster presentations on topics including healthy lifestyle, weight management, exoskeleton use, healthcare utilization, and health literacy specific to people with traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, and stroke. Multiple presentations were based on the federally funded projects of Drs. Simon Driver and Katherine Froehlich-Grobe who have received grants through the National Institute for Disability, Independent Living and Rehabilitation Research and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Focus on SCI Research

Dr. Froehlich-Grobe who is leading up efforts at BSW Institute for Rehabilitation in SCI research was invited by ACRM’s Spinal Cord Injury Interdisciplinary Special Interest Group to deliver 2 presentations at the 2018 conference, a luncheon presentation and a ‘hot topic’ presentation. The luncheon presentation addressed ‘Best Practices for Designing and Studying Behavioral Interventions for People with Physical Disabilities’, while her Hot Topic presentation discussed ‘Behavioral Interventions to Promote Healthy Diet and Weight Among People with SCI’. Dr. Froehlich-Grobe also presented data that evaluated a recent weight loss program the BSWIR investigator team completed about ‘Usability of the Group Lifestyle Balance Program – Adapted for individuals with Impaired Mobility (GLB-AIM)’.
