Baylor Institute for Rehabilitation RISE Adaptive Sports Brings Top BMX, Skateboard, Wheelchair Motocross Competition to DFW

On Friday and Saturday, April 18-19, top competitors from across the country will convene in Irving to compete for bragging rights, cash and prizes in the divisions of BMX, skateboarding and wheelchair motocross (WCMX). A professional ramp course is being built specifically for this event inside the Irving Convention Center at Las Colinas.

Megan Ritzi, 18, of Fort Worth is nearing the end of her treatment at Baylor Institute for Rehabilitation in Dallas. The Baylor University student survived an automobile accident in July, which occurred as she and three other students were travelling to a clarinet performance in Louisiana.

For patients recovering from a traumatic brain injury (TBI), the rehabilitation process – compensating for changes in functioning, adaptation and even community reintegration – can be challenging. Unfortunately, not all rehab programs are created equal, and with the differences comes a difference in outcomes, according to a first-of-its-kind study published in The Journal of Head Trauma Rehabilitation.
