Specialized program offers treatment to individuals with stroke, brain and spinal cord injuries.

 

LAKEWAY, Texas – Nov. 19, 2020 -- Baylor Scott & White Institute for Rehabilitation (BSWIR) held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on November 18, 2020, to mark the opening of a specialized Day Neuro Program at its Lakeway hospital, located at 2000 Medical Drive. The program, the only one of its kind in the region, offers innovative treatment to help individuals transition to life at home and in the community following a stroke, brain injury or other neurologic event.

 

“The Baylor Scott & White Institute for Rehabilitation - Lakeway Day Neuro Program provides a specialized level of care and treatment to help patients build the strength, skills and independence needed to be successful as they return home and resume work, school, leisure or community activities. The program provides a critical step in an individual’s recovery – a bridge from injury to life ahead – and we are committed to delivering the services and support to help our patients achieve their goals,” said Sara Wriborg, chief executive officer, Baylor Scott & White Institute for Rehabilitation- Lakeway. 

 

 

Day Neuro Program provides rehabilitation services in a safe, secure and structured environment by a team of physical, occupational, speech and recreation therapists, nurses, doctors and other neurorehabilitation specialists. The new center features a spacious gym, advanced equipment and technologies, a training kitchen and computer lab.

“The care and safety of our patients is always our top priorities,” said Katharine Powers, market director, neuro continuum. “In response to COVID-19, we’re continuing to follow guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Texas Department of Health on masking, social distancing, hand hygiene, extensive cleaning of equipment and other precautions to help protect our patients and staff.”

Baylor Scott & White Institute for Rehabilitation is one of only 16 model systems for the treatment and research of traumatic brain injuries, which supports the continuum of neurorehabilitation care.
