Wray, who has been with BSW Rehab for 15 years, works with renal, transplant and hepatology patients in the acute care section of All Saints – Fort Worth. In the nomination letter written by a fellow employee, she described his efforts to make a positive difference in the lives of patients: "Steve is able to work with every patient with a sense of patience and kindness rarely seen in today's world. Each patient remembers the tall, friendly man who helped them feel independent again. "

The nomination went on to say that Wray’s positive attitude extended to patients and staff alike, and his efforts to improve patient education ultimately has increased patients’ mobility, independence and positive outlook of their condition. "Steve not only encourages the staff, but the patients to make better life choices. His inspiration for patients to be mobile and knowledgeable about their disease process consistently increases independence and positivity. He has never met a challenge he cannot approach and face head on. He always finds a way to connect with his patients, and even gets them ‘moving in style.’ One nurse recalls a particular patient that would only exercise with music; Steve found a way to make it work! He uses unit activities as an 'excuse' to get patients out of bed and voting for different contests held on the floor. "

More than 400 employees voted on this year’s award with the awards committee judging more than 18 entries before deciding on Wray as this year’s winner. In addition to being awarded the title, Wray received a gift package that included a $1000 reward, a one night stay at the historic Hilton Hotel in downtown Fort Worth, two (2) Six Flags passes to Holiday in the Park, a gift card to Cattlemen’s Steak House in Fort Worth, and one year of premium covered parking in the All Saints parking garage.

"As one of our acute care therapists, this is an incredible honor to win the Employee of the Year award at such a large hospital as Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center – Fort Worth," said Fabian Polo, BSW Rehab president. "This truly points to the culture and commitment of our employees to provide an exceptional patient and employee experience."
