Lifestyle Intervention for People Following Stroke
- You are interested in losing weight and having a healthier lifestyle
- You have had a stroke
- Between 18 and 64 years of age
What is this study about?
Sponsored by the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR), researchers at Baylor Scott & White Institute for Rehabilitation (BSWIR) are looking to test the effectiveness of a healthy lifestyle intervention called Group Lifestyle Balance (GLB), modified for individuals with stroke, on weight loss and physical activity.
What would you do in this study?
Eligible participants will schedule a time to visit BSWIR to formally consent and be randomized (like the flip of a coin) into one of two groups: 1) the GLB healthy lifestyle group or 2) or a wait-list group who will start the GLB program 6 months later.
- The programs would each last for one year and would meet on a regular basis at BSWIR in Dallas.
- In addition to these classes, participants would be asked to come to BSWIR in Dallas for 4-6 assessment visits where we would draw blood, measure your weight, and ask a series of survey questions. You would be compensated for your time.
