Cancer Rehabilitation

About Cancer Rehabilitation

Fighting cancer takes a huge toll on your body. On top of your diagnosis, radiation and chemotherapy treatments can have a lasting impact on your overall well- being. If left untreated, these issues can linger or get worse. Through our evidence-based treatments, our certified cancer rehabilitation therapists can help you restore your quality of life, regardless of your diagnosis.

Our Approach to Treatment

We bring together cancer rehab specialists who provide physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy both during and after your cancer treatment. All of our clinicians are specially certified in cancer rehabilitation and have a passion for helping you overcome the side effects of cancer treatment. To be a part of the ReVital network, our clinicians are required to undergo an expanded level of training and commitment to become ReVital certified.

Gladiator In Training

Sabine joined Camp Gladiator expecting to become a more healthy, active person. She didn't expect that six months later she would be diagnosed with breast cancer.  She decided she didn't want to quit her new-found passion, so she continued to go to Camp Gladiator as much as she could during her battle with cancer. Sabine pushed herself through cancer treatments and physical therapy as she recovered from 2 major surgeries. With the help of our ReVital Cancer Rehabilitation program, she was able to make a full comeback and compete in the Camp Gladiator Games this year.

Specialized Speech Therapy for Cancer Rehab

If you are scheduled to undergo major surgery or radiation treatment that involves the head or neck region, we recommend that you are clinically evaluated by a certified speech-language pathologist. We can identify any pre-existing problems so they can be addressed before starting cancer treatment. During cancer treatment, we can monitor for your progress and intervene as needed.

Prior to a laryngectomy – the complete or partial removal of the larynx – we also recommend seeing a certified speech-language pathologists. This can relieve anxiety related to the surgery and answer questions from you or your family. After surgery, speech therapy will improve breathing and train you in the most effective methods of communicating without a voice box. This may include esophageal speech, artificial larynx, tracheo-esophageal puncture (TEP) or even speech generating devices.

After completion of radiation or surgery, therapy is available to address communication or swallowing issues that may arise weeks, months or even years later.
