Women's Health Physical Therapy Residency

Our Women’s Health Physical Therapy program is a joint residency through the Texas Woman’s University Dallas Campus. This program provides residents with a minimum of 12 - 14 month intensive study in the physical therapy specialty of women’s health. Upon completion, residents will be prepared to earn their board certification in women’s health physical therapy. Rotations emphasize different specialty areas including: oncology, pelvic health, pregnancy/post-partum, lymphedema and aquatics. The program includes direct patient care, mentoring time, didactic education, projects and presentations. The Residents will also earn their CLT through the Norton School of Lymphedema.

  • Program length: 12-14 months with entrance date June-July of each calendar year
  • Application deadline: The Application opens October 1st of each calendar year. We have a rolling application process until all slots are filled. However, any applications received after March 30th will be considered for the following residency calendar year.
  • Important program dates:
    • Lymphedema Certification Course occurs end of May to early June
    • One month on-boarding for external candidates beginning in early June
    • Residency begins in mid-July
  • Location: The program is split between three locations.
    • Baylor Scott & White Institute for Rehabilitation - Outpatient Therapy – Plano Alliance
    • Baylor Scott & White Institute for Rehabilitation - Outpatient Therapy – Irving MacArthur
    • Baylor Scott & White Institute for Rehabilitation - Outpatient Therapy – Grapevine Aquatics
  • Salary: Residents will receive a salary as an employee of Baylor Scott & White Institute for Rehabilitation – Outpatient Therapy that is equivalent to new graduate physical therapists.
  • Caseload: Consists of women's health patients as defined in the APTA Description of Residency Practice (DRP). Your caseload is adapted to allow time for didactic coursework, research, mentoring, presentations and projects.
  • Benefits: Residents are eligible for benefits as a full time employee of Baylor Scott & White Institute for Rehabilitation. This includes employer supported health insurance, paid time-off (vacation, sick time, and organization holidays). This is not an all-inclusive list.   • Course fees: Residents are expected to pay the tuition for all TWU courses and cost will vary per year and on whether resident qualifies for in state or out of state tuition. Lymphedema course cost is provided by Baylor Scott & White Institute for Rehabilitation.

TWU curriculum for residency in women's health

  • Norton Lymphedema Course (*no additional course fee)
  • PT 6603 Female Anatomy for Physical Therapists, three credit hours (on-site)
  • PT 6613 Women's Health for Physical Therapists, three credit hours (web-based)
  • PT 6623 Physical Therapist Management of Women's Health I, three credit hours (on-site)
  • PT 6633 Physical Therapist Management of Women's Health II, three credit hours (hybrid course)

Residency eligibility requirements

  • Must be licensed to practice physical therapy in Texas*
  • Able to attend Norton Lymphedema Certification course (end of May - early June) prior to the start of the residency
  • Approximately a 14 month relocation to Dallas, TX
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Physical ability to perform examination and treatment procedures
  • Psychological and social stability required for successful completion of the program
  • Evidence of commitment to a career in Women's Health
  • Strong skills in scientific inquiry and writing

*Special consideration may be given to highly-qualified new graduate applicants with a temporary Texas license.
